Welcome New Jerseypalooza?

Last week, we posted on the upcoming plans by concert promoters C3 Presents regarding a possible music festival in Philadelphia. The news brought quite a bit of controversy and the plan ultimately fell apart between C3 and officials in Philadelphia.

Quickly scrapping the Philadelphia idea, but not the hope for a new festival, C3 has announced the creation of a new music festival that will take place in Vineland, New Jersey between August 8-10, 2008.

C3 Presents, the Texas-based company that brought Lollapalooza to the Chicago lakefront in 2005, announced Tuesday that it would partner with Festival Republic, the company behind several huge European festivals, to stage the Vineland Music Festival in Vineland, N.J., on Aug. 8-10, 2008. The festival will be held on a 550-acre private farm within an hour’s driving distance of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C…

Both Lollapalooza and Vineland will feature more than 100 bands on multiple stages over three days, and Jones predicted some “overlap” in the lineups of bands scheduled to play, including headliners. Though the events are a week apart, he said, they are strong enough to thrive independently.

Article from Chicago Tribune.

My first question is where in New Jersey does it take a hour to drive to from D.C.? In regards to the festival itself, I don’t know what to think of the whole thing. I’d like to see the lineup before I make any decisions, but this could have a very hard time competing against fellow east coast music mecca Virgin Festival and even Lollapalooza to some extent.
